RESPECT: Our Community Values
Deakin is a nurturing environment with a collaborative culture of respect that allows all students to thrive academically and grow as people. Residents and staff share the responsibility of building and maintaining a healthy and happy community, and all experiences are guided by our RESPECT values.
Our Community Values - RESPECT
Everything we do at Deakin Res is shaped by one word: RESPECT. It’s our set of community values that guide how we live, study and hang out together:
Being Responsive means listening to each other and taking concerns seriously.
Being Encouraging means backing each other’s goals and calling out behaviour that doesn’t align with our values.
Being Safe means making sure everyone can sleep, study and socialise without feeling threatened or uncomfortable.
Being Proactive means sharing info early, communicating clearly and stepping in when something’s not right.
Being Enjoyable means creating a positive, fun environment – not at the expense of someone else’s comfort.
Being Connected means looking out for each other and building community.
Being Tolerant means embracing diversity and practising empathy, not just ticking a box.
These values apply everywhere, 24/7. In units, hallways, group chats, at events and across campus. When you bring RESPECT into your daily life on Res, you help make this a place where everyone can genuinely belong.
