When you live at Deakin Res, you’re not just moving into a room, you’re joining a community supported by a whole team of helpful humans who are here to make your experience safe, smooth, and genuinely enjoyable.

You might see them behind a desk, fixing something in your apartment, checking in after hours, or running events that help you make friends fast. Each team plays a different role, but they all share the same goal: supporting you to feel at home on Res.

Here’s a closer look at the people who help make that happen.

Student Wellbeing at Deakin Res

Reception Team

If there’s one place that feels like the heart of Res, it’s reception.

Our reception team are often the first people you’ll meet, welcoming you on check-in day, answering your questions, and helping you navigate day-to-day life on campus. From collecting parcels and issuing keys to pointing you in the right direction when you’re unsure who to speak to, they’re your go-to problem solvers.

No question is too small, and no day is ever the same.

Campus Life Team

The Campus Life team are the people behind the moments that turn Res into a community.

They design and deliver events, activities, and programs that help you meet people, feel connected, and settle into university life. Whether that’s orientation events, social nights, wellbeing workshops, or cultural celebrations. They also support and train Residential Leaders (RLs), who live on Res and help build a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Maintenance Team

Things break. It happens. Luckily, our Maintenance team are absolute legends.

They work behind the scenes (and sometimes right in front of you) to keep your living spaces safe, functional, and comfortable. Whether it’s a light that won’t turn on, an appliance that needs attention, or a bigger fix that can’t wait, they’re there to help, and they do it with a friendly wave and a can-do attitude.

They’re a huge part of what makes Res feel reliable and well looked after.

Night Welfare Coordinators

Support doesn’t stop when the sun goes down.

Our Night Welfare Coordinators are on campus overnight to help keep residents safe and supported. They’re there if something unexpected happens, if you’re feeling unwell, or if you just need someone to check in with during after-hours periods.

Knowing there’s someone awake, nearby, and ready to help provides peace of mind, especially in those first few weeks away from home.

Residential Leaders (RL’s)

Residential Leaders are students just like you who live on Res and play a key role in shaping the community around them.

They’re often the friendly face you see in the hallway, the person running a floor dinner, or the one checking in if they notice someone might need a bit of extra support. RLs help create a welcoming, inclusive environment by bringing people together, setting positive community standards, and being a point of connection between residents and staff.

For many students, RLs are the people who make Res feel less intimidating and more like home, especially in those early weeks when everything is new.

Campus Support Officers

Working closely with Deakin University, Campus Support Officers are on campus from 7pm to 5am, providing additional support across the wider campus environment.

They assist with safety, wellbeing, and after-hours concerns, and collaborate with Res staff to ensure students feel secure at all times. While they’re part of Deakin University, they’re a valued extension of the support network that surrounds our residential community.

Living on Res means being surrounded by people who genuinely care about your experience. People who show up every day (and night) to support you, answer questions, fix problems, and help you thrive.

These helpful humans may have different roles, uniforms, and schedules, but together they form the backbone of Deakin Residential Services. And while you might only interact with some of them briefly, their impact is felt every day.

So next time you pass reception, see maintenance on the move, or spot a staff member after hours, know that they’re all part of the team helping make Res a place you can truly call home.
