As we look ahead to 2026, we’re excited to welcome new residents to Deakin Res and build on the strong foundations laid throughout 2025. This year marked another important chapter for our residential communities, with more students than ever choosing to live on campus. That choice reflects the trust placed in Deakin Res as a safe, supportive, and connected environment where students can belong, grow, and feel at home.

To our current residents, thank you for the energy, care, and involvement you brought to Res life this year. Your participation, whether through attending events, taking on leadership roles, or simply being part of everyday community life, shaped the experience for those around you. Across all campuses, we delivered more than 750 events, with over 25,000 individual attendances, creating countless opportunities for connection, wellbeing, and shared experience. These moments, big and small, helped bring our communities to life and supported students as they navigate university life.

To those moving on, particularly our graduating residents, we extend our sincere thanks. You’ve contributed to Deakin Res in meaningful ways. As friends, leaders, mentors, and role models. The culture you helped create continues to influence the way our communities operate and welcome new students. In 2025, we welcomed over 80 new Residential Leaders, many of whom were inspired to step into leadership by the sense of belonging, care, and connection they experienced as residents themselves. Student Safety and Wellbeing at Deakin Res

Student safety and wellbeing continue to sit at the heart of what we do. In 2025, Deakin Res once again achieved Gold Accreditation under the Residential Experience Standard, recognizing our ongoing commitment to creating safe and supportive residential communities. This year, safety was our strongest area, with residents telling us they feel secure, included, and supported where they live.

That feedback is incredibly important to us. Initiatives such as our Night Welfare Coordinators and Proactive Welfare Policy play a big role in ensuring students have access to support when they need it, including after hours, and that concerns are picked up early. These approaches allow us to offer care that is responsive, thoughtful, and centered around student wellbeing.

Just as important, though, are the everyday moments, the check-ins, the conversations in shared spaces, and the support offered by Residential Leaders and staff. Together, these create communities where students feel comfortable being themselves and confident, reaching out for help when they need it. You can read more here

To our future residents, you’re joining a community built on inclusion, care, and genuine support. From your first day at Deakin Res, you’ll be surrounded by people who want to see you settle in, make connections, and thrive, not just academically, but personally as well.

As 2025 comes to a close and we look toward 2026, we’re proud of what’s been achieved, grateful for the people who make Deakin Res what it is and committed to continuing to support every student who calls Res home.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in Res life this year. We’re excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to welcome our next community.
