Moving away from home is an exciting step, whether you’re starting university for the first time, relocating from another region or country, or joining a new community. At Deakin Residential Services, creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment is at the heart of everything we do.
From secure buildings to around-the-clock support, Deakin Res is designed to help students feel comfortable, connected, and cared for from day one.
24/7 Support When You Need It
One of the biggest advantages of living at Deakin Res is knowing that support is always available. Our residences are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so students are never alone when they need assistance.
This includes:
Campus Support Staff (security), available around the clock
Night Welfare Coordinators who provide after-hours wellbeing support
Residential staff who can assist with concerns, emergencies, or general guidance
Whether it’s late-night assistance, support during a difficult time, or help navigating a situation, students have access to trained staff at any hour of the day or night.
Support Beyond Security
Safety and wellbeing at Deakin Res extend beyond physical security. Students also have access to dedicated Campus Life staff, who are available for appointments and ongoing support throughout the year.
Campus Life staff can help students:
Navigate university life and living away from home
Connect with appropriate support services
Access wellbeing, counselling, academic, accessibility, or financial support services available through Deakin
Seek help early if they are experiencing challenges
Having approachable staff who can guide students to the right support can make a significant difference, especially as residents are adjusting to independent living and a new environment.
Secure Buildings and Controlled Access
Safety begins with secure spaces. All residents at Deakin Res have their own private, lockable room, giving them personal space and peace of mind.
Access to residential buildings is controlled through secure key fob entry systems, ensuring only authorised residents can enter accommodation areas. This helps maintain a safe and comfortable living environment for everyone.
Additional safety features include:
Well-lit pathways and communal areas
Security patrols and monitoring
Emergency procedures and evacuation plans
Staff trained in incident response and student support
A Community That Looks Out for Each Other
Safety is about more than buildings and systems - it’s also about feeling supported and connected.
At Deakin Res, students become part of a close-knit community where wellbeing matters. Residential Leaders (RLs) help foster inclusive and respectful environments, organise events, and provide peer support throughout the year.
This strong sense of connection can make a meaningful difference, especially for students living away from home for the first time.
Peace of Mind for Students and Families
Choosing where to live during university is a big decision. At Deakin Res, safety is prioritised so students can focus on what matters most - settling in, making friends, and enjoying university life.
With 24/7 support, secure accommodation, approachable staff, and a caring community, Deakin Res provides students and families with confidence and peace of mind throughout their university and residential journey.
