What do saxophones, acoustic duos, and magic tricks all have in common? They all rocked the stage at this year’s Res Factor in Geelong – and we’re still buzzing from the energy!
One of Deakin Res [Geelong’s] most iconic annual events recently took place at the Geelong Arts Centre and it was a night not to be missed. Over 300 residents packed the house, gathering to cheer on their fellow performers in a night that was all about celebrating creativity, confidence, and community.
From soulful singers to quartet recitals, contemporary dances to group performances, the talent on show was next-level. And with guest judges like X Factor runner up and local Geelong celebrity, Taylor Henderson, as well as singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Colliver (who has supported the likes of Vance Joy and Taylor Swift – thank you very much!), the stakes were high – but so was the fun.
One of the stars of the night, Geelong’s very own magic man, summed it up perfectly:
Res Factor was so much fun and showcased so many incredible talents on stage. The judges, the host, the audience and the entire event was so great.
And trust us – the performers weren’t just there for a good time (though there was plenty of that). They were all in. Fellow performer Stella gave us a peek behind the curtain into her team's prep:
… as the night drew closer and we spent weeks fine-tuning our choreographed piece, it was clear we weren’t just having a blast – we were bonding as a team. We loved creating something together and couldn’t wait to show it off. We were so proud of what we pulled off.
Worried you'll miss out if you're planning to study and live at Burwood or Warrnambool? Don’t be!
No matter where you call home—Burwood, Warrnambool, or Geelong — every Deakin Res campus knows how to put on a talented show and hosts vibrant events that spotlight the creativity, passion, and talent woven throughout our Res community.
These events are part of our Arts & Culture pillar in our Student Experience Framework – a fancy way of saying: we’re here to help you grow, have fun, and find your people, whether you’re into music, leadership, fitness, community service, or all of the above.
So whether you're a future Res star, an enthusiastic audience member, or somewhere in between – there’s a place for you on our stage. Res Factor and Res’ Got Talent an aren’t just events, they’re a celebration of what makes life at Deakin Res truly unforgettable.
