Did you know Deakin Res isn’t just for full-year residents? We also offer short-term accommodation for Deakin students — and students from other institutions — in fully furnished, self-contained rooms across all our campuses.
So, if you’ve got a placement, intensive or internship coming up as part of your course, why spend hours scrolling through hotels or Airbnb listings? Our short stay options are budget-friendly, convenient, and designed for students like you.
We recently caught up with two nursing students, Harriet and Zoe, who made the most of our flexible accommodation while completing their placements in Melbourne at our Burwood campus.
Why did you choose to stay on campus?
Harriet: "It was just so convenient! I knew I’d have parking, access to laundry, and the flexibility to come and go without disturbing anyone. Plus, being close to the hospitals where I was placed gave me real peace of mind — especially being so far from home."
Zoe: "For me, it was a no-brainer. It’s central, felt safe, the rooms were super comfortable, and it was really well priced for what I needed."
What were the biggest benefits?
Harriet: "Having a self-contained unit was great for my early starts and late nights. I loved how close it was to supermarkets and public transport, plus having undercover parking and easy access to laundry was a big bonus."
Zoe: "The convenience was huge! Staff were always friendly and helpful, the rooms were a great place to unwind after a long day, and I loved that I could access the building any time of day or night. I even got to explore Melbourne on my days off!"
Would you recommend it?
Zoe: "Definitely! It’s safe, welcoming, great value for money and gave me a private, secure space away from home."
Harriet: "Absolutely. It’s simple, stress-free and makes placements so much easier to manage."
Any advice for future students?
Harriet: "Check the Deakin Res website and don’t be afraid to call or email reception — they’re really helpful. Look at your placement travel time and then just go for it! It’s a fun experience and a great way to meet others doing the same thing."
Zoe: "It’s a great balance between independence and support — you’ve got your own space, but help is there if you need it."
Short stay accommodation is available across all Deakin Res campuses, with room types and availability varying throughout the year. We encourage you to get in touch with our Campus teams - they’ll be more than happy to assist and help find the best option for your stay.
Each stay includes:
Fully furnished, self-contained rooms
Bedding and linen provided
Free Wi-Fi
Kitchens with basic cooking packs, fridges, microwaves and ovens
You won’t get room service or wake-up calls - but you will get a safe, welcoming space with all the essentials, and the chance to connect with other students undertaking similar experiences.
Ready to Book?
