After the quieter summer months, our campuses suddenly burst into life. Corridors fill with laughter, common rooms become meeting points, and every corner of Res starts buzzing with energy. Orientation isn’t just about finding your way around, it’s about finding your people, your place, and your rhythm in university life.
From the very first welcome event to the last late-night hangout, Orientation is where the Deakin Res community truly comes alive.
Events at Deakin Res
Each February, our Campus Life teams deliver hundreds of events across our campuses. From social mixers and trivia nights to campus tours, cultural celebrations, wellbeing sessions, and creative workshops, there’s always something happening.
Whether you’re an early riser heading to breakfast events or a night owl showing up for movie nights and games, there’s space for everyone to get involved.
As first-year resident Sophie shared:
“I was nervous coming in, but there were so many events that I never felt alone. Every day there was something new to try and new people to meet.”
Orientation is designed to take the pressure off making friends. You don’t need the perfect introduction, you just need to show up.
Starting uni can feel overwhelming. New city, new routines, new faces, it’s a lot. Orientation helps break down those barriers.
Icebreaker sessions, shared meals, team challenges, and casual drop-in activities make it easy to connect naturally. Before you know it, the people you met at a welcome BBQ are sitting next to you in lectures or becoming your late-night study buddies.
For international student Daniel, Orientation made all the difference:
“I didn’t know anyone when I arrived. After the first week, I already had friends from three different countries. It made me feel like I belonged.”
That sense of belonging is at the heart of Deakin Res.
Yes, there’s a lot of free food. And yes, it’s always a highlight.
At Deakin Res, Orientation is more than a schedule of events, it’s the foundation of our community. It’s about, trying new things, meeting new people, feeling supported, having fun, and creating memories that last well beyond February
Whether it’s your first year or your fourth, Orientation reminds us why living on Res is such a special experience.
Here’s to another year of connection, community, and unforgettable moments.
