There’s no doubt that it’s been a tough two years for the year 12 graduating class of 2021. Long stretches of online learning, missed social and personal growth opportunities as well as some milestone moments unable to go ahead due to COVID-19 restrictions. Having said that, we have seen amazing resilience, creativity and persistence as well.

To you, the incoming university class of 2022, we say well done and welcome. The best is yet to come, and the way to make the most of it is by living on campus!

A CHANCE TO FORM NEW FRIENDSHIPS

Our residents have told us loud and clear that the best thing about life on campus has been the friendships they’ve made, which often become life-long connections. And even better, they’re friendships with a wide range of people from different backgrounds but with shared interests, brought together by our exciting range of events and activities.

SAFE AND CONVENIENT

With proven COVID-Safe plans in place and award-winning facilities, you can be confident that you’re making a great decision by living on campus. You’ll get to your classes in under five minutes and if your class is online you can take advantage of the uni WIFI and log in from the comfort of your room or one of our handy study spaces. You can also make use of other excellent amenities, including pool tables, movie rooms, outdoor recreation spaces, common rooms, laundries and more!

I love how central res is, it’s made everything convenient as I don’t have to travel to access things I might need like a supermarket. The local Westfield shops are also convenient, only a five-minute walk from the residences, and my friends and I also enjoy swimming at Eastern Beach on warmer days.

LEARN NEW SKILLS AND FIND NEW PASSIONS

University is an important time for personal development and growth, especially after the shared challenges of the last few years. Now is the time to get involved and explore, and you’ll have many opportunities through our exciting events programming. Think moonlight cinemas, scavenger hunts, lawn games, trips to the beach, Indigenous cultural experiences, heaps of food and coffee and much more! Our events are designed to build community, teach leadership skills, offer arts and cultural opportunities and support your health and wellbeing, so you know you’re in good hands.

Check out the Deakin Res Instagram page for a taste of what’s to come!

FIND YOUR INDEPENDENCE

Moving out of home is a big step, and there’s lots to learn quickly. Living on campus is a great way to jump into life at university and live independently while remaining supported by our wonderful facilities, staff and programming. That way you can focus on things like expanding your cooking repertoire and getting the hang of the washing machines, while enjoying your independence in a safe environment.

I tell everyone that they should do it. I just think that it’s an opportunity like no other and it can have such an impact on your life. It gives you a chance to put yourself out there, and it sets you up for not only a place to live while at Uni but also a career afterwards.
Tayla Falconer, former Resident

CREATE LIFELONG MEMORIES

Most importantly, living on campus is a whole lot of fun! You’ll be joining a diverse community of students all embarking on a new adventure together in real life! University is a time where life-long memories are created through meaningful connections, ongoing friendships and new experiences, and by making the move onto campus at Deakin you’ll be making the most out of it!

At Deakin Res we are so excited to see a new group of students from across Australia and around the world moving onto campus, forming new and exciting friendships, growing as people and getting involved in a wide range of activities.
