Deakin Residential Services (Deakin Res) is home to thousands of students across Deakin’s campuses. We provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment where students can thrive.

Residents enjoy:

  • Modern, state-of-the-art facilities

  • A range of accommodation options to suit individual needs

  • A diverse calendar of social events and activities

  • 24/7 customer service and security

Our programs are designed to help students settle into university life, build friendships, and support their health and wellbeing.

Living by Our Values: RESPECT

At the heart of Deakin Res is our set of RESPECT values. These values guide how we live together as a community.

RESPECT stands for:

  • Responsive

  • Encouraging

  • Safe

  • Proactive

  • Enjoyable

  • Connected

  • Tolerant

Created in 2016 with input from students, staff, and university partners, these values shape community expectations and everyday life on res. As CEO Vincent Wilson explains:

By integrating our values into all aspects of the residential experience, including induction, rules, discipline, student leadership, and event management, they have become a critical part of the fabric of the residential community.
Vincent Wilson, CEO, DRS

Supporting Every Student

Our award-winning resident induction helps new students feel prepared before they arrive. The interactive program covers:

  • Consent and respectful relationships

  • Bystander intervention

  • Drugs and alcohol

  • Safety and security

  • Introductions to the residential team

Once on res, students know they are supported. Our staff are available on-site 24/7—something that sets us apart from many other accommodation providers. Students can speak with staff at any time and be referred to university services like Safer Community, Counselling, or Security when needed.

Leadership Within the Community

Student leaders also play a big role in creating a positive culture. Around one leader lives with every 30 students. Their role is to:

  • Provide transition support for new residents

  • Role model RESPECT values

  • Recognise and report safety or wellbeing concerns

  • Help run activities and events

All leaders complete extensive training, including:

  • Mental Health First Aid

  • First Aid

  • Bystander Intervention

  • Respectful Relationships

  • Drug and alcohol education

Looking Ahead

Deakin Res is committed to continuously improving the student experience. Vincent sums it up best:

We’re tremendously proud of our community here at Deakin Res, and it’s wonderful to see all of our staff and students sharing the responsibility for building and maintaining our healthy and happy communities.
